Liberal views prevail in American show business, but the tacit ban on supporting the Republican Party in the creative community may soon become a thing of the past. This opinion was shared with Izvestia by American political scientist Malek Dudakov.

Earlier, netizens accused Hollywood actress Sidney Sweeney of "Nazi propaganda" and supporting right-wing views due to her participation in an advertising campaign for the American Eagle jeans brand. The reason for the criticism was the pun in the slogan Great jeans, which some users heard as Great genes ("great jeans"/"great genes"). The actress was supported by US President Donald Trump, writes the New York Post.

"The cancellation culture is failing, and it is not possible to cancel those who are not ready to support the liberal democratic agenda in everything. It is difficult to predict yet, but I do not rule out that the precedent of Sidney Sweeney will help those who used to hide their views. <...> The taboo of supporting Republicans in Hollywood and in show business will gradually fade into history," Dudakov said.

He added that since the summer of 2024, the actress has been a registered supporter of the Republican Party. The political scientist noted that the support of Republicans is a "red flag" in the Hollywood "crowd," and celebrities with relevant beliefs often have to hide their views in order not to lose their careers.

The expert admitted that a few years ago, scandalous advertising could have deprived the actress of her job. However, now, in his opinion, Sweeney will not be led by the liberal public, demanding that she "repent" and renounce party membership.

"Rather, the actress will try to "put it out" somehow, not to speak much on political topics. But he won't justify himself to anyone either," he suggested.
