- The teachers advised the first-year students not to be shy about communicating with teachers.
The most common mistake freshmen make is being shy to ask teachers or other responsible people anything, and as a result, misunderstanding or difficulties in any areas of activity. Anastasia Lugovaya, senior lecturer at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, author of textbooks and online courses, told Izvestia on August 5.
She added that one of the key skills for student success is communication with both classmates and university teachers. The expert noted that joining a new team of complete strangers can be quite stressful.
"It is important to remember here: for all first—year students, the environment and people are also a new environment, everyone is unfamiliar to each other, and it is important to present yourself correctly, make a pleasant impression among other students and establish yourself as a responsible student among the teachers," Lugovaya said.
She advised students to smile and take the initiative in communicating with classmates, approach teachers with questions, and be attentive to themselves and others. In response, teachers will always help and tell beginners how best to act in a given situation.
A colleague of the expert from the same educational institution, teacher Anna Ovsyannikova, advised to be more active in order to adapt to the new team. For example, go to student councils, sign up for clubs and events, even if you don't know anyone yet.
"Write to the teachers, do not hesitate to ask questions. Many of them expect that someone is really interested in their subject. Another secret is to learn to listen to others, not to interrupt or argue for the sake of argument, but to listen. This will not only boost communication, but also help you become an interesting conversationalist you want to follow," she shared.
According to Ovsyannikova, a new stage is always stressful, even if the future student is very smart and ready to study. You should not program yourself for a feeling of loneliness and the concept of "I can not cope."
"It's okay. But it's important not to get stuck. Ask yourself: "Why am I here?" Not for the sake of a tick in the diploma. For the sake of experience, for the sake of freedom, skills. For the sake of his future life. In order not to burn out, arrange micro—victories for yourself: passed the test, well done, figured out a difficult topic, a hero. I went for a couple when I didn't want to, I'm a winner. These things provide energy as good as coffee," the teacher advised.
The specialist added that rest is not procrastination if it is conscious. To do this, you need to walk, dance, read books off the program, and also allow yourself to be alive.
"Studying is not just knowing formulas and terms, but the ability to live when everything is new, when a person is at the start. And if you are not perfect, but attentive, flexible and honest with yourself, everything will definitely work out. The most important thing is not who you will come to university with, but who you will leave it with," the expert summed up.
Earlier, on August 1, the marketing director of Ventra Go! Anna Larionova told Izvestia how students can better plan their own budget. According to her, it is important to create a financial cushion to protect against unforeseen expenses. As for part-time work, the expert advises choosing official or transparent employment formats: freelance, remote work, tutoring or platform employment.
