A zoo in Denmark has asked for pets to be given to predators.
The Aalborg Zoo in Denmark has asked locals to give their pets to predators to mimic their natural habitat. A message about this appeared on the zoo's Facebook page (owned by Meta, a company whose activities are recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).
"In zoos, we are responsible for reproducing the natural food chain of animals as accurately as possible — this is important both for their well-being and for scientific integrity. If you have an animal that needs to be separated for various reasons, you can donate it to us," the message says.
The zoo explained that chickens, rabbits and guinea pigs are an important part of the diet of their predators, especially the European lynx, which needs a whole animal to eat, resembling prey during hunting.
Zoo representatives added that trained specialists will "humanely euthanize" the animal, it will be used as food.
"Nothing goes to waste — and our predators get proper nutrition, behave naturally and feel good," the message says.
On July 29, the management of the Nuremberg Zoo confirmed the killing of 12 baboons due to an excess number of individuals. The aviary was designed for only 25 individuals. Previously, the zoo was closed for "technical reasons." This prompted animal rights activists to take appropriate measures by staging a demonstration in front of him. Activists were sure that the zoo had closed due to the intention to hide from the public the fact of killing animals.
