- The United States called for an end to arms supplies to Kiev instead of duties on India
On August 4, member of the U.S. House of Representatives Marjorie Taylor-Green called on President Donald Trump to limit the issuance of visas to Indians and stop supplying weapons to Ukraine instead of imposing duties against India.
Trump said earlier in the day that he would significantly increase duties on India due to Russian oil imports. According to him, India not only buys huge amounts of Russian oil, but also sells most of it on the open market, making huge profits at the same time.
"Put an end to Indian H1B visas <...> and stop financing and supplying weapons to <conflict> [former US President Barack] Obama, [former US President Joe] Biden, neoconservatives between Ukraine and Russia," the congresswoman replied to the US president on the social network X.
On July 14, Trump announced secondary duties of 100% against countries that buy Russian oil if a peaceful settlement in Ukraine is not reached. On August 4, the Global Times newspaper reported on the refusal of India and Brazil to stop buying oil from Russia, despite threats from Trump.
