Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda has accepted the resignation of the government. This was reported on August 4 by the Delfi agency.

"President Gitanas Nauseda has signed a decree on the resignation of the government and Social Democrat Gintautas Palutskas from the post of prime Minister," the statement said.

He also issued a decree instructing the interim Government to assume its duties.

Earlier in the day, the Lithuanian government, headed by Prime Minister Gintautas Palukas, resigned. As specified, the outgoing government of the Baltic country has worked for only eight months.

On July 24, Nauseda demanded that Prime Minister Gintautas Palutskas clarify the situation surrounding the scandals involving him or consider resigning from office. The reason for the ultimatum was the investigation into the company Dankora, founded by Paluckas' niece. The company received a preferential loan from the ILTE development Bank and soon began purchasing from Garnis, of which the prime minister himself is a shareholder.
