The FSB has identified 62 clandestine weapon modernization workshops in Russia

In May-June, employees of the Federal Security Service (FSB) identified 62 clandestine workshops for the modernization of weapons and the manufacture of ammunition in Russian regions. This was announced on August 4 by the FSB's Public Relations Center.

"The illegal activities of 157 residents from 51 regions of the country involved in the illicit trafficking of weapons of destruction, as well as the restoration of the combat properties of civilian weapons in clandestine workshops and their sale have been suppressed," the message says.

It is noted that operational search measures and investigative actions were carried out at the addresses of the defendants.

268 firearms of domestic and foreign manufacture were seized from illegal traffic, including four machine guns, 11 submachine guns, 94 pistols and revolvers, 25 submachine guns, 134 rifles, carbines and shotguns, two grenade launchers, 16 electric detonators, 92 grenades, as well as 21 artillery shells. In addition, over 140 kg of explosives and more than 34,000 rounds of ammunition were seized.

In May, it was reported that law enforcement officials had stopped the activities of 172 illegal gunsmiths from 58 regions of the country. According to the intelligence service, in March and April 2025, operational search measures and investigative actions were carried out at the residential addresses of the suspects. As a result, 404 Russian and foreign-made firearms were seized from illicit trafficking.
