Preliminary reasons
The alleged cause of the car accident was the departure of a bus on the way in front of an approaching train, as reported by the press service of the Oktyabrskaya Railway. As the organization wrote in its official Telegram channel, it was not possible to avoid a collision, since the distance was insufficient even with the use of emergency braking. The railway clarified that there was no derailment of the rolling stock.
"The train driver applied emergency braking, but the distance was insufficient, and a collision could not be avoided," the organization's Telegram channel said.
The official Telegram channel of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation put forward a preliminary version, according to which the driver of the passenger bus ignored the forbidding traffic light signal and drove to the railway crossing directly in front of the moving freight train.
An investigation has been launched into the incident
Law enforcement agencies, including Volkhostroevsky transport prosecutor Pavel Ivoilov, arrived at the scene.
"The Volkhostroyevsky Transport Prosecutor's Office is checking the implementation of legislation on safety in the operation of railway transport and the observance of passengers' rights after an incident at a crossing in the Leningrad region. According to preliminary data, on August 4, 2025, a bus with tourists collided with a gas train at the regulated crossing of Inema station.
