- Trump threatened new sanctions against Russia in case of failure of the truce in Ukraine
On August 3, US President Donald Trump announced that if the ceasefire agreements in Ukraine were disrupted, Washington would impose new sanctions on Russia.
At the same time, Trump questioned the effectiveness of such measures, noting Moscow's ability to circumvent previously imposed sanctions. According to him, the Russian side has repeatedly demonstrated its ability to adapt to external pressure.
"There will be sanctions, but it seems they are avoiding them quite successfully. You know, they're tricky people, and they're pretty good at avoiding them, so we'll see what happens," Trump said.
Trump said in an interview with Newsmax on August 1 that the Russian authorities were successfully dealing with sanctions, but Washington was ready to consider tightening them. This is how he answered the question of what further actions would be taken if an agreement on the Ukrainian conflict was not reached within the 10 days set by him.
