A faulty altimeter on an army Black Hawk helicopter caused it to collide with a passenger plane in Washington on January 29, resulting in the death of 67 people. This was reported by the Associated Press on August 3.

"The helicopter's altimeter turned out to be broken, and the controllers had warned the FAA (the US Federal Aviation Administration) a few years earlier. - Ed.) about the dangers posed by helicopters," the publication says.

It is specified that the military helicopter was flying at an altitude of 85 m with a permitted maximum of 61 m. This was due to faulty equipment on the Black Hawk, which showed data 24-30 m below the actual flight altitude. According to AP, similar problems were found in three more helicopters of the same unit.

The disaster occurred on the night of January 30, after the accident, the plane and helicopter crashed into the Potomac River. There were 60 passengers and four crew members on board the civilian aircraft, and three military personnel on the helicopter. US President Donald Trump announced the absence of survivors of the plane crash. All 67 victims were identified.
