Gagauzia declared the unity of the autonomy's people
Today, the Gagauz people are united, and they strive to preserve their autonomy. This was stated on August 3 by Yuri Kuznetsov, Deputy Head of the Gagauz Department for External Relations, at a rally in support of Yevgenia Hutsul, Bashkan of Gagauzia, in Comrat.
"Today the Gagauz people are united, today the Gagauz people are focused on preserving their autonomy. This is exactly what today's event shows," Kuznetsov said in an interview with Izvestia.
Moldovan MP Vasily Bolya pointed out that this rally represents support for both Hutsul and traditional families, since the head of the autonomy is a mother of two children.
"Our leadership does not think about ordinary peasants, grandmothers, grandfathers, our children and our future. She only thinks about the top and joining Romania, the European Union," said one of Hutsul's supporters.
According to him, the head of the autonomy is not a corrupt official, and the case against her is made up.
Another participant of the rally in Comrat expressed dissatisfaction with the policy of Moldovan President Maia Sandu, saying that the authorities divide people along ethnic lines and lead the country in an incomprehensible direction. He also called for the liberation of Hutsuls.
In addition, the Telegram channel Sputnik Moldova reported that the Moldovan police blocked the entrances to Comrat from Cadir Lungi and Kirsovo, but there were no official explanations about the reasons for the blocking.
Hutsul was detained at the Chisinau airport on March 25. The head of Gagauzia was arrested for 20 days, and then the court replaced her measure of restraint with house arrest. Since then, it has been extended several times. On July 1, prosecutors demanded that Hutsul be sentenced to nine years in prison in the case of "illegal financing of political parties."
On July 17, the Chisinau Court of Appeal rejected the lawyers' petition and decided to keep the head of Gagauzia under house arrest. Hutsul's lawyer Natalia Bayram stressed that her detention under house arrest is "the height of lawlessness."
