The team of US President Donald Trump has abandoned its previously stated goal of arresting 3,000 illegal migrants every day. This was reported by the Politico newspaper on August 3.

Earlier, White House Senior Adviser Sean Hannity announced his intention to make at least 3,000 arrests of illegal migrants daily.

"But when federal judges demanded detailed information about this figure last week, the administration [of the American president] denied the existence of such a quota," the article says.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security later confirmed that neither the leadership of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) nor its field offices had been tasked with meeting any quantitative quotas or targets for arrests, detentions, and expulsions of migrants.

"This discrepancy is another example of the gulf between public statements by White House advisers and statements by the Department of Justice in court," writes Politico.

NBC reported on June 25 that the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement, despite promising to expel the "worst of the worst" from the country, detained only 6% of the thousands of illegal immigrants convicted of murder. According to the TV channel, of the 13,000 immigrants who committed murder, which ICE reported to Congress in September, they managed to detain only 752 people.
