BZ announced Germany's plans to create the strongest army in Europe
The German authorities have begun to rearm the Bundeswehr to make it the strongest army in Europe. This was reported by the Berliner Zeitung (BZ) newspaper.
"As part of this project, Germany plans to submit more than 60 arms purchase contracts to parliament for approval by the end of the year," the publication says.
As specified by "Gazeta.Ru", Germany plans to surpass the NATO countries in defense spending. In particular, the Bundeswehr plans to purchase 20 Eurofighter fighter jets, 3,000 Boxer armored fighting vehicles and at least 3,500 Finnish Patria armored vehicles. The possibility of purchasing "several hundred" Leopard 2 tanks is also being considered.
Bloomberg reported on July 28 that Germany's defense budget could double (to €162 billion) over the next four years, as Germany seeks to rearm on a large scale and meet NATO targets to increase defense spending to 3.5% of GDP. According to the newspaper, €9 billion out of €162 billion will be spent annually on supporting Ukraine.
Later, on July 30, the Reuters news agency reported that Germany was preparing several multibillion-dollar orders for military equipment and planned to increase the military budget by more than €20 billion. It was clarified that in addition to armored vehicles, the German authorities intend to strengthen air defense and purchase the IRIS-T and SkyRanger complexes.
