The poll showed an increase in the popularity of the Alternative for Germany party
The rating of the German opposition party Alternative for Germany (AfD) has reached 25% for the first time since May, which shows an increase of one percentage point. The Handelsblatt newspaper writes about this on August 3, citing data from a survey conducted by the Forsa Institute for Public Opinion Research.
At the same time, the CDU, the party of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, has a rating of 27%, the SPD — 15%, the Greens have the support of 11% of voters, and the Left Party — 10%. At the same time, the Sarah Wagenknecht Union party remains at 4% so far, while the FDP has 3% at all.
It is reported that if the elections were held now, the current CDU/CSU and SPD coalition would not be able to gain a majority of seats in the Bundestag. Theoretically, a clear majority would be possible only for the CDU/CSU and the AfD, which together would have an absolute majority in parliament.
On June 29, the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) voted to immediately prepare for a ban on AFD. The adopted resolution of the SPD calls on the federal and land authorities to collect the necessary materials to file a lawsuit with the Federal Constitutional Court to declare the AfD unconstitutional.
