The WSJ reported on internal strife in the Pentagon amid Hegseth's mistakes
The Pentagon is gripped by internal strife due to a number of mistakes by the head of the department, Pete Hegseth, who, according to some officials, is not coping with his duties due to inexperience. This was reported on August 2 by the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) newspaper, citing Pentagon officials.
"A series of missteps by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has led to internal strife at the Pentagon and raised concerns among some Republicans on Capitol Hill about whether he can run the department," the publication says.
According to the WSJ, the reason may be Hegseth's lack of managerial experience. In addition, it is reported that the Pentagon chief has become less trusting of the top leadership of the department in connection with scandals due to information leaks.
"Hegseth is in conflict with senior officers and fired three high—ranking aides who had a good connection with the White House," the publication clarifies.
The newspaper notes that the White House was unhappy with Hegseth's refusal to dismiss his chief of staff, despite doubts from Pentagon officials about the qualifications of this employee.
The Daily Mail reported on July 23 that some Pentagon officials were preparing a letter demanding Hegseth's resignation. According to the authors of the appeal, he does not take into account the opinions of intelligence, security and legal advisers and makes decisions on his own. In addition, the minister is criticized for abolishing the "policy of diversity and inclusivity," which has caused an alleged increase in cases of "racist incidents" in the department.
