British Foreign Secretary David Lammy admitted on August 2 that he should have better prepared Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for a meeting with American leader Donald Trump.

"Why didn't I do more to support our Ukrainian colleagues in preparing for their meeting? I was a little hard on myself. But I still felt guilty," he said in an interview with The Guardian newspaper.

According to the newspaper, the day after the incident, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer contacted Zelensky and invited him to visit London.

During the meeting between Trump and Zelensky in the Oval Office of the White House on February 28, a verbal altercation took place. The US president accused the Ukrainian leader of disrespecting Washington. According to him, the head of the Kiev regime is "playing with the third world war" and is not ready to resolve the conflict.

Later, on March 2, Trump's national security aide Mike Waltz said that the team of the President of the United States advised the American leader to stop negotiations with the head of Ukraine after a verbal altercation in the White House. He added that Zelensky angered Trump and did not make it clear during the meeting that he wanted to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
