Construction of a high–tech plant for the production of ballast-free railway plates for Russia's first Moscow-St. Petersburg high-speed railway has begun in Veliky Novgorod. The opening ceremony of the construction took place on August 2.

"Today's event is an important milestone in the implementation of one of the country's key infrastructure projects. The HSR is a project that is changing the way we think about Russia's transport system. We are talking about new speed, new connectivity and a new economy for the regions," Russian Transport Minister Andrey Nikitin said at the ceremony.

It is specified that the plant will be equipped with full digitalization of all production processes. This will create an efficient production facility with continuous quality control. During the year, the plant will produce more than 100 thousand railway plates, which will be able to operate for up to 60 years.

"The schedule is extremely tight — in just a year we have to go from design to production of the first products. By the third quarter of 2026, the plant will reach full capacity and provide the HSR with the necessary materials," added Alexey Krapivin, General Director of the National Project Construction Group.

Alexander Dronov, Acting Governor of the Novgorod Region, stressed that the opening of the plant would become a driver for the development of the region's economy.

"This is an investment. These are new jobs. These are taxes. These are products that have no analogues now. This is, of course, the development of technical scientific potential. This is the development of our college, the development of Yaroslav the Wise Novgorod University. And once again, this is a driver for the socio-economic development of our entire region," the governor said.

On June 18, it was noted that the construction of the Moscow–St. Petersburg high-speed railway has been deployed at all stages of construction, involving more than 830 people and 140 pieces of equipment.
