- The Interior Ministry warned about calls from scammers disguised as employees of military enlistment offices
Fraudsters began to use a new scheme to deceive Russians with calls allegedly from employees of the military enlistment office. This was announced on August 2 by the Department for the Organization of the fight against the illegal use of information and communication technologies (UBK) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.
"A call is coming from an unknown number. On the other end of the line, they introduce themselves as an employee of the military enlistment office and talk about the need to clarify some military registration data," the department's Telegram channel says.
The Interior Ministry clarified that after that, the scammers are asked to name an SMS code allegedly to update data in the register of electronic summonses. However, in fact, the attackers gain access to a personal account on the Gosuslugi portal.
The UBK of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia recalled that entry into the unified register of military registration does not require any confirmation codes or additional checks.
Irina Volk, the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, said on July 10 that a police officer could personally call a citizen only to invite him to the department. She noted that intruders need human stress, so they try to intimidate and threaten. The official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs advised not to communicate with such people and immediately hang up the phone.
