The trade turnover between Russia and Bulgaria in 2024 amounted to $1 billion, which is 74% lower than in 2023. This was announced on August 2 by Russian Ambassador to Bulgaria Eleonora Mitrofanova.

"According to local statistics, the bilateral trade turnover reached $1 billion in 2024. However, this is 74% lower than in 2023, which reached $4.2 billion," RIA Novosti quoted Mitrofanova as saying.

She stressed that in the current conditions, for the first time, the Russian Federation did not enter the top ten of Bulgaria's main partners.

On July 30, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova reminded the Bulgarian authorities of a possible response to lawlessness against the Russian Federation. According to her, Bulgarian parliamentarians need to keep this in mind and carefully weigh their decisions in terms of the inevitable consequences. This statement was made after the Bulgarian parliament adopted on July 23 a declaration stating the country's solidarity with the European Parliament (EP) in defining Russia as a "state supporting terrorism." Zakharova stressed that such a decision by Bulgaria is "flawed in its essence" and "divorced from reality."
