KHL club Sochi announced the appointment of Krikunov as head coach
On August 2, Sochi Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) club announced the appointment of 75-year-old Vladimir Krikunov as the team's head coach. His previous place of work was Dynamo St. Petersburg (from November 2023 to April 2024).
Krikunov previously headed Dinamo Minsk, Riga and Moscow, the Slovenian clubs Akroni Jesenice and Cele, Spartak and Avtomobilist (Yekaterinburg), Ak Bars (Kazan), Neftekhimik (Nizhnekamsk), Barys (Astana).
With Dynamo Moscow, he won the national championship in the 2004/2005 season. As a head coach, he led the Belarusian national team to the semifinals of the 2002 Olympic Games, won bronze and silver medals at the world Championships with the Russian national team, and led the national team of Kazakhstan.
Dmitry Mikhailov became the senior coach of Sochi, Andrey Mironov, Evgeny Shaldybin and Anton Bukhanko will be the assistants of the head coach, Sport-Express clarifies.
On July 27, the St. Petersburg hockey club SKA, which plays in the KHL, changed its logo. In the updated version of the club's logo, the club's name is set against a blue-white-red star.
