- The Ministry of Internal Affairs warned about fraud with a tax deduction on "Public Services"
Fraudsters can use "Public Services" to apply for a tax deduction on their own account. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation warned about this on August 2.
"Fraudsters can gain access to a taxpayer's account and apply for a deduction by specifying their account to receive money," RIA Novosti quoted the agency's materials.
It is noted that by obtaining a Gosuslug account, fraudsters gain access to passport data, SNILS, credit history, and real estate information. With this information, scammers can call their victims, extorting money.
The department recalled that scammers currently most often do not call first, but force the victim to initiate contact with disturbing messages about the alleged hacking of the Gosuslug personal account.
On July 26, the Department for Combating the Illegal Use of Information and Communication Technologies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia advised not to use the screen demonstration function on phones when communicating in messengers. When using this method, a person runs the risk of transferring their data to fraudsters.
