An investigation has been launched against Prosecutor Jack Smith, who led two criminal cases against US President Donald Trump. This was reported on August 1 by The New York Post (NYP).

"The Office of the Special Prosecutor has launched an official investigation into Jack Smith, which was the first official investigation into his actions," the newspaper writes.

Smith's actions as prosecutor drew significant condemnation from Republicans, who accused him of using the justice system to harass Trump and weaken his electoral position in 2024.

Republicans believe that Smith acted during this period, guided by the electoral interests of first former US President Joe Biden, and then former US Vice President Kamala Harris. The main purpose of these actions, presumably, was to influence the outcome of the vote.

Former presidential adviser Steve Bannon said on March 29 that Trump could end up in prison if he wins the next presidential election.

On March 27, Trump announced the need to review the country's judicial system, calling the courts in Washington and New York the most corrupt and radical.

On January 12, it became known that Special Prosecutor Jack Smith had completed his work on two criminal investigations into the forgery of financial documents against Trump and resigned.
