The doctor told about the first signs of tick-borne fever
Rickettsiosis is a set of acute diseases caused by Rickettsia bacteria, which are infected through the bites of arthropods, including ticks, lice and fleas. This was announced on August 2 by Marina Berezhnaya, Candidate of Medical Sciences, general practitioner, Head of the Department of Emergency and Emergency Care at the European Medical Center (EMC).
"Recently, there has been information about the possibility of transmission through tick bites of one of the varieties of rickettsiosis — tick-borne spotted fever. This disease is most common in the western hemisphere, but it is impossible to exclude the possibility of detecting this infection in other regions," the expert shared in an interview with Gazeta.Ru».
The signs of tick-borne fever are chills and fever. The appearance of a rash after a few days helps to distinguish it from other respiratory diseases.
"Do not wait for the symptoms of diseases to appear: if you find a tick, consult a doctor immediately. Examination of the tick and preventive measures will help to avoid serious health consequences," Berezhnaya added.
To avoid tick bites, you need to take precautions. Before going out into nature in places with tall grass, you need to apply insect repellent. Clothing should cover the body as much as possible: long sleeves, trousers, a headdress and pant legs tucked into socks.
"After a walk, it is necessary to carefully examine the body, clothes and pets. Do not try to pull out the tick yourself — this may worsen the situation, contact the nearest clinic so that the doctor can correctly remove the insect and take it to the laboratory for analysis," the doctor summed up.
On August 2, Andrey Dorokhov, Associate Professor of the Department of Inorganic Chemistry named after A. N. Reformatsky RTU MIREA, spoke about the dangers of using mosquito coils. The expert stressed that they can harm not only insects, but also people.
