Brazil, in order to protect its economy, is preparing a response to the duties imposed by US President Donald Trump in the amount of 50%. This was announced on August 1 by President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

"We are currently working to protect our economy, our business and our workers, as well as to respond to the tariff measures of the US government," he wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

He stressed that the country's future is determined by its citizens and their institutions. In addition, the head of state recalled that Brazil has always been ready and open to dialogue.

Trump imposed duties of 50% on goods from Brazil, which were supposed to take effect on August 1. On July 24, Reuters reported that Lula da Silva had expressed his country's willingness to negotiate on the issue.

And later, on July 30, he said that in the event of the introduction of duties from the American side, his state would look for new partners. In addition, the Brazilian leader added that it was time to move from diplomatic relations with the United States to political ones.
