- NBC spoke about the hunger strike of prison inmates in Florida because of the conditions of detention
Prisoners of the Alligator Alcatraz immigration prison in the US state of Florida staged a ten-day hunger strike against the conditions of detention. This was reported on August 1 by NBC News channel.
"The hunger strike at Alligator Alcatraz has been going on for the tenth day, as prisoners protest against what they call inhumane and dangerous conditions of detention," the TV channel reports.
It is specified that one of the detainees was hospitalized during the strike, but continues to refuse to eat. His wife expressed concern that he might die in custody.
Human rights organizations have filed lawsuits against prison conditions, alleging violations of prisoners' right to legal aid, but the State denies this fact.
Sputnik Armenia reported on July 4 that Archbishops Bagrat Galstanyan, leader of the opposition Holy Struggle party, and Mikael Ajapakhyan, head of the Shirak Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church (AAC), will hold a one-day hunger strike on July 5.
