- Reuters has learned about the joint work of the United States and NATO on the scheme of arms supplies to Kiev
The United States and NATO countries have collaborated to work on a new mechanism for supplying weapons from Ukraine's "list of requirements." This was reported on August 1 by the Reuters news agency, citing sources familiar with the matter.
"The NATO countries, Ukraine and the United States are developing a new mechanism that will focus on the delivery of American weapons to Ukraine from the list of priority requirements," one of the agency's anonymous interlocutors is quoted in the publication.
At the same time, as noted, the supplies will be fully paid for by NATO. The issue of which of the member countries of the alliance will "donate" their finances will be discussed during the negotiations coordinated by NATO Chief Secretary Mark Rutter.
One unnamed senior NATO official described the scheme as a "starting point" and "a voluntary effort in which everyone can participate." The publication noted that a total of $10 billion worth of weapons will be supplied to Kiev.
On August 1, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced that his country intends to deliver two Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems to Ukraine. According to him, this decision was made after coordination with the United States.
