Kirill Dmitriev, CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), commented on an August 1 New York Times (NYT) article about the "unresolved correspondence" between Ursula von der Leyen, head of the European Commission (EC), and Albert Burla, head of the pharmaceutical company Pfizer, calling the situation a disgrace.

On August 1, the NYT reported that the EC had not preserved the correspondence between von der Leyen and Burla on the procurement of coronavirus vaccines for the European Union (EU) during the pandemic, hiding it from journalists. The article notes that the decision not to save the messages could have been made after May 2021, when a journalist from a German news agency first submitted a request for them to publish the correspondence.

"It's a shame," Dmitriev commented on the situation on the social network.

Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations Peter Szijjarto announced on May 14 that the EC should immediately disclose information about the relations of the head of the department von der Leyen with Pfizer. Politico reported on May 14 that the EU court found von der Leyen responsible for concealing information about contracts for the purchase of vaccines against COVID-19.
