In summer, cars are seriously tested — the heat can significantly shorten the life of a car battery if maintenance is not performed correctly. Nikita Rodionov, technical director of the international car service network FIT SERVICE, warned about this on Friday, August 1. He named ways to protect the device.

According to the expert, if a serviced battery is installed in the car, it is worth checking the electrolyte level regularly. In the heat, it evaporates faster, and if the level drops below normal, the plates of the device will become bare, begin to overheat and collapse.

"Usually there are MIN and MAX marks on the body of such batteries — the liquid level should be between them. If there is not enough electrolyte, add distilled water," said the auto expert in an interview with Lenta.Ru .

It is also important to periodically inspect the battery for cleanliness, Rodionov noted. Dust, dirt, and corrosion on the terminals can lead to problems, as poor contact increases resistance and energy is lost. This is especially noticeable in the heat, when the load on the car's electrical system increases. The plaque on the terminals can be cleaned with a metal brush or sandpaper until it shines.

The expert also urged to avoid overheating the battery by parking the car in the shade.

"And an elementary rule that drivers often forget: turn off all unnecessary energy consumers when the engine is turned off. The lights in the cabin, the headlights, if there is no automatic shutdown, charging for phones, DVR — all this continues to "pull" energy from the battery when the motor is not running and the generator is not producing current," concluded Rodionov.

Earlier that day, Alexey Balashov, Avilon Mercedes-Benz director of service and spare parts, said that at temperatures above +30 degrees, additional risks arise for cars during refueling, RT reports. Hot weather increases the concentration of flammable vapors and makes any violations of refueling regulations especially dangerous.

In turn, independent auto expert Vadim Pilyugin stressed the need for a thorough check of the car before a long trip in the summer. 360.ru .

Earlier, Yulia Trushkova, Rolf's service director, said that in the warm season, the car should be washed carefully, but you should not do this in the sun when the car has a hot body.

She explained that because of the hot body panels, water evaporates instantly and car shampoo simply does not have time to complete its task, leaving the car owner with streaks, spots and smudges. And the chemicals will leave scorched marks on the hot car.
