Tatiana Pozdnyakova, a leading specialist at the Meteonosti news agency, said that Moscow residents should adapt to the new climatic conditions — changeable weather with temperature fluctuations and precipitation is increasingly reminiscent of a subtropical climate.

In an interview with the Moscow City News Agency on Friday, August 1, the specialist noted that, according to the Russian Climate Doctrine of 2023, weather changes in Moscow have become a steady trend. According to her, the heat above +30 degrees and heavy rains are now part of the new climate regime. In particular, in the first three weeks of July 2025, 219% of the monthly precipitation rate fell in some areas of the capital, and in Zelenograd, on July 21, the precipitation rate for the entire month was recorded per day. Such fluctuations and intense rains, she noted, are typical of a subtropical climate.

Pozdnyakova added that the soil and the urban landscape cannot cope with such volumes of water, which contributes to flooding, writes "Moscow 24". She stressed that Muscovites should get used to the new weather reality.

Climatologists suggest that by 2050, summers in Moscow will become even hotter and wetter, resembling the climate of the Black Sea region. The authorities will be forced to adapt the infrastructure — to develop drainage systems, create water-absorbing zones and revise building regulations, the website reports. kp.ru .

Earlier on August 1, the Ministry of Emergency Situations warned of a sharp deterioration in the weather in the capital. The agency reminded that shaky structures should be avoided in bad weather, drivers should be especially careful, and children should not be left unattended. 360.ru .

On the same day, Roman Vilfand, scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center, told NSN that rains would return to Moscow over the weekend, but "tropical showers" were not expected. A short-term cold snap is expected on Saturday, then the heat will return to +29 degrees, and rains are forecast closer to Thursday.

At the same time, Tatiana Pozdnyakova spoke about the weather in Moscow next week. The nights may become less stuffy, and by the end of the week it will be cooler.
