A Colombian court has sentenced former President Alvaro Uribe, who held office from 2002 to 2010, to 12 years of house arrest for procedural fraud and witness bribery. This was reported on August 1 by the publication 20 minutos with reference to the text of the court order.

"Former Colombian President Alvaro Uribe (2002-2010) was sentenced to 12 years of house arrest for crimes related to procedural fraud and bribery in criminal proceedings," the article says.

It is noted that Uribe was also fined $822,000 and deprived of the right to hold public office for more than eight years. According to the newspaper, the trial lasted 13 years. Uribe became the first Colombian leader to be convicted in a criminal case. The verdict can be appealed.

On June 11, the Supreme Court of Argentina upheld the sentence of former President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner to six years in prison and a lifetime ban from holding public office.

In 2022, Kirchner was sentenced to six years in prison in a corruption case, but did not serve a single term, because at that time she was the current vice president of Argentina.
