The orientalist called the recognition of Palestine a demonstration of the crisis of Trump's policy

The desire of some Western countries to recognize Palestine may be related to their attempt to show the United States the crisis of the foreign policy of American President Donald Trump. On August 1, Stanislav Tarasov, a political scientist and expert on the problems of the Middle East and the Caucasus, told Izvestia.

"A demonstration of the crisis of Trump's foreign policy. <...> This is a symbolic move, hundreds of states have already recognized Palestine, including Russia," the orientalist said.

According to Tarasov, the Trump administration's indecisive reaction to such a step by Western countries indicates a weakening of American influence on partners.

"The United States finds itself isolated. <...> They are isolated in the Middle East, and [Washington's] prospects for leading events according to its own scenario are narrowing," Tarasov said.

At the same time, the expert stressed that the recognition of Palestine by Western countries will not be able to have a sufficient impact on the settlement of the situation in the Gaza Strip, as a different format for decision-making is needed.

"We need to get out of the closed space of the USA – Israel – Palestine – Arab countries. It is necessary to move to a broader format for a Middle East settlement involving Russia, Iran, China and Turkey," Tarasov concluded.

On July 24, French leader Emmanuel Macron announced plans to recognize Palestine. He noted that this will contribute to ending the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in the Gaza Strip, as well as rescue and comprehensive assistance to local residents. Shortly after, on July 30, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced Ottawa's intention to recognize Palestine. On July 29, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer made the same statement.
