Russian-Lao school opens in Vientiane

A Russian-Lao school will open in Vientiane. Alexander Radkov, the head of the Russian House in Laos, told Izvestia about this on August 1.

It is specified that Russian is currently being studied in six prestigious educational institutions in Vientiane as part of the Russian Teacher Abroad program of the Ministry of Education. In addition, Russian classes are planned to open in Luang Prabang, the country's second largest city, which is considered the cultural capital of Laos, starting in September this year.

According to Radkov, together with the Ministry of Education and Sports of Laos and the A. I. Herzen Pedagogical State University, a textbook of the Russian language for Lao schoolchildren is also being developed, which will take into account the phonetic and cultural characteristics of the Lao people.

"Unfortunately, the general training of Lao schoolchildren in many subjects, especially in the field of natural sciences and exact sciences, is at a fairly low level, so the Lao side is ready to take as a basis the Russian standards of education in these disciplines," he explained.

During the recent visit of Lao President Thonglong Sisoulit to Moscow, the countries confirmed the need to create a joint Russian-Lao school. The concept of the new educational institution involves intensive teaching of the Russian language from the first grade and training in a number of subjects in the field of exact and natural sciences. Graduates of the school will receive two certificates — Russian and Lao. The site for the construction of the school has already been selected in one of the prestigious districts of the capital.

On July 31, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that relations between Moscow and Vientiane are developing steadily and successfully. He also drew attention to the multifaceted and mutually beneficial nature of cooperation between the two countries.
