In Spain, a married couple abandoned their 10-year-old son at Barcelona airport because his passport was expired. This was reported on July 31 by the British newspaper Daily Mail.

The incident was reported by the air traffic coordinator at the airport.

"The couple allegedly abandoned their 10-year-old son at a Spanish airport to go on vacation after discovering that his passport had expired," the article says.

According to the newspaper, the couple left the child alone at Barcelona's El Prat International Airport and asked a relative to pick him up so they wouldn't miss their flight.

As a result, the parents were found and taken to the airport police station.

In October last year, Russian Ekaterina Burnashkina gave birth in the bathroom of Antalya airport and left the baby there. The girl survived due to the fact that she was found 12 minutes after the incident. A criminal case was opened against Burnashkina.

In February 2025, a court in Turkey sentenced Burnashkina to 15 years in prison. However, on July 14, the woman was released after her case was reclassified from "attempted murder of a loved one" to "abandonment." An abandoned child was found a new family in the Moscow region.
