Belarus has always been and will always be close to Russia. This was stated by President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on August 1.

"We (Belarus. — Ed.) nearby. We always have been and we always will be, and it was also said yesterday. Don't worry about these sanctions," Lukashenko said.
