The allocation of $3.5 billion by the United States for the purchase of AMRAAM-120 missiles for Ukraine will not have a significant impact on the situation in the special military operation zone. This was announced on August 1 by the director of the Museum of the Air Defense Forces, retired Colonel Yuri Knutov.
According to him, despite the high range and maneuverability of the AMRAAM-120 missiles, their effectiveness largely depends on the availability of modern aircraft capable of using them.
"These missiles can only be used from very modern aircraft. That is, the same F-16s that are in Ukraine will not actually be able to use these missiles for one simple reason: the sights that are on these aircraft will be ineffective," Knutov said.
The military expert also suggested that these missiles could be sent to other European countries, while outdated systems may be transferred to Ukraine.
"US President Donald Trump says one thing and does another. The administration in Washington declares that it is withdrawing from Ukraine and focusing on the Indian-Pacific region, but in reality it is starting to pump Ukraine with weapons designed for anti—aircraft combat," he stressed.
In addition, Knutov added that if it is established that the planes are not controlled by Ukrainian pilots, but by Americans or pilots from NATO countries, this may be regarded as direct interference in the hostilities against Russia.
On July 31, the Pentagon announced that the United States would allocate $3.5 billion for the purchase of AMRAAM missiles for Ukraine and other countries. In addition to Kiev, the contract provides for foreign military supplies to Denmark, Germany, Poland, Great Britain, and Israel.
