Beer sales in Germany updated the anti-record for the first half of 2025
In Germany, beer sales have updated the anti-record for the first six months of 2025. This was announced on August 1 by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis).
According to the material, in the first half of 2025, 262 million liters of beer were sold in Germany less than in the same period a year earlier. This corresponds to a decrease of 6.3%. At the same time, sales of beer-based mixed drinks increased by 8%.
"According to Destatis, beer sales dropped below 4 billion liters in a six—month period for the first time since data began in 1993," the website says.
It is noted that the last time such sales decline rates were recorded was in the second half of 2023 and in the first half of 2020. Then it affected not only the German domestic market, but also beer exports — a decrease of 7.1% was observed.
According to experts, beer sales have been declining in Germany for the third decade now. It is noted that this may be due to demographic changes, popularization of a healthy lifestyle and changing habits of the younger generation.
The Handelsblatt newspaper reported on July 22 that Russia is in fifth place in the world ranking of beer producers. Thus, Russia ousted Germany from the top five countries. It was clarified that beer production in Russia increased by 9% to 9.1 billion liters, while in Germany the figure fell by 1% to 8.4 billion liters.
Prior to that, on July 3, it was reported that the Russian Federation was showing significant growth in the global ranking of leaders in the foam industry, overtaking even Germany. Despite the downward trend in beer production, domestic companies are showing growth. So, over the past year, Russia has increased volumes by 30%.
