- A 98-year-old veteran who moved to the Pskov region from Latvia received a Russian passport.
In the Pskov region, 98-year-old veteran of the Great Patriotic War Vasily Maksimovich Maskalenov, who moved from Latvia, was presented with a Russian passport by the governor of the region Mikhail Vedernikov. This was announced on August 1 by the head of the Pskov region.
"In a solemn ceremony, I presented Vasily Maksimovich Maskalenov, a participant in the Great Patriotic War, with a passport of a citizen of the Russian Federation and, on behalf of our president, handed over the jubilee medal "80 years of the Great Victory," Vedernikov wrote on his Telegram channel.
It is clarified that Moskalenov was forced to move from Latvia, where he lived almost all his life, because "the authorities of the European state considered the Russian pensioner dangerous to society." The governor called the veteran a true "example of courage and patriotism."
On May 9, Izvestia presented 97-year-old WWII veteran Nikolai Rochev with a reprint of the newspaper's May 9, 1945 issue. He said that he joined the army when he was not yet 17 years old. The military enlistment office tried to dissuade the young man, but, as the veteran emphasized, he stood firm.
All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
