The specialist told about the features of the new GOST for toys
Since August 1, a new interstate standard (GOST) for toys has been introduced in the countries of the Customs Union. The main innovation was the unified classification of toys, which combined existing systems used by manufacturers and educators. This was stated by Antonina Tsitsulina, President of the Association of Enterprises of the Children's Goods Industry, on August 1 at the Izvestia press center during a press conference dedicated to the entry into force of GOST on toys.
According to the expert, the new document will help parents to better navigate when choosing toys appropriate to the child's age. The standard pays special attention to terminology, which will now be regularly updated taking into account the appearance of new types of products.
"There are new toys, new categories of toys that require justification. For example, there have never been toys with smells, or toys and food products, or cosmetics, have been very strongly integrated," Tsitsulina explained.
The standard will be dynamically developing: some categories of toys will be added, while others will be excluded from the classification. The document has already been agreed upon by all five member countries of the Customs Union and is ready for use, the expert noted.
Earlier, on June 1, a survey revealed the popularity of the educational toy category. 56% of parents prefer to buy them. In addition, 49% of the respondents named educational qualities as an important factor when choosing toys.
