A resident of the Ulyanovsk region received eight years in prison for setting fire to relay cabinets

A court has sentenced a resident of the Ulyanovsk region to eight years in a penal colony for setting fire to relay cabinets on a stretch of Ulyanovsk – Laishevka stations. This was announced on August 1 by the Volga Transport Prosecutor's Office.

The attacker was found guilty under Part 3 of Article 30, paragraph "a" of Part 2 of Article 281 of the Criminal Code ("Attempted sabotage") and paragraph "a" of part 2 of Article 281 of the Criminal Code ("Sabotage").

"In July 2023, in order to damage transport infrastructure facilities on the Ulyanovsk –Laishevka section of the Kuibyshev Railway, he set fire to two relay and two battery cabinets, as a result of which the facilities were destroyed," the Telegram channel of the department wrote.

In addition, in June 2023, the defendant planned to carry out arson attacks on other railway facilities, but due to "circumstances beyond his control" he was unable to complete them.

It is specified that the attacker will serve his sentence in a general regime colony.

On the same day, it was reported that FSB officers had detained a Russian in Sevastopol who was collecting data on air defense facilities for the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). According to the agency, the man independently contacted a representative of the Special Operations Forces of Ukraine through the Telegram channel, which is used to collect intelligence information by Ukrainian intelligence. A criminal case has been opened against the attacker under Article 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("High treason").
