US President Donald Trump offered the European Union (EU) countries to purchase $ 1 trillion worth of American energy resources before the end of his term as head of state, and in exchange promised to reduce duties on goods from Europe in the amount of 30%. This was reported by the Politico newspaper on August 1, citing a senior White House official.

"At first, the numbers were pretty reasonable, and then the president said: "I think you should buy $1 trillion worth of energy resources during my [presidential] term." As a result, they stopped at $750 billion," a media source said.

According to Politico, the EU is now trying to soften criticism after making commitments to purchase American energy resources, as even the reduced amount of $750 billion has caused concern among market analysts and supporters of the "green" agenda.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on July 30 that the EU's commitment to U.S. energy purchases, which is part of the EU-Washington trade agreement, undermines the economic sovereignty of its members. She pointed out that Europe has become even more energy dependent on the United States because of the slogan to reduce dependence on Russian resources.

The United States and the European Union (EU) agreed on a trade deal on July 27. EU countries remain with 15 percent tariffs on most of their exports, including cars. In addition, the EU agreed to purchase $750 billion worth of American energy resources and invest another $600 billion in the US economy.
