US President Donald Trump's goal in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict was to achieve a temporary truce in Gaza and then determine its political future. This was stated by Marco Mossad, a freelance researcher at the Council for Middle East Policy in Washington, in an interview with Izvestia on August 1.

"The first thing that President Trump wanted to achieve from the very beginning was a cease—fire, then negotiations, and after that a discussion about the political future of the Gaza Strip: how it will be governed, whether Israel will control it, or whether some other entity will do it. But above all, he seeks to establish a two—month truce," he said.

The Mossad clarified that Trump had failed to achieve a truce, despite Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's visit to Washington about a month ago. At that time, great hopes were pinned on the meeting. He noted that Trump is campaigning for an end to all wars, especially in the Middle East, because he strives to look like a man of peace and hopes to receive the Nobel Peace Prize.

On July 28, US President Donald Trump announced that he had no plans to take a specific position on the issue of recognizing the State of Palestine. According to the politician, in the current situation, he considers the humanitarian crisis in the region more important. He added that the children in the Gaza Strip actually look very hungry, despite Netanyahu's statements to the contrary.
