Switzerland could not reach an agreement with the United States on duties. This was announced on July 31 by Swiss President Karin Maria Keller-Zutter.

"Today I spoke with President [of the United States Donald] Trump before the deadline for the introduction of duties. This conversation did not allow an agreement to be reached on the statement of intent agreed between Switzerland and the United States," she wrote on the social network X (formerly Twitter).

The President stressed that the trade deficit remains the main problem for the United States.

On July 31, Reuters reported that Trump had signed a decree imposing duties of 50% on a number of imported goods containing copper. The new tariffs will come into force on August 1 and will affect semi-finished copper products, as well as derivative products with a high copper content.
