Polish President-elect Karol Nawrocki, in a telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, demanded a change in approach to the issues of common history that are important to Poles. This was announced on July 31 by Rafal Leskevich, press secretary of the Polish Institute of National Remembrance and future press secretary of Navrotsky.
"Historical politics has become a key topic of discussion. Karol Navrotsky stressed that he is the voice of the nation, demanding a change in Ukraine's approach to important and still unresolved historical issues. This needs to be changed," he wrote on his page on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
It is specified that during the dialogue Zelensky congratulated Navrotsky on his victory in the presidential election. The Polish President stressed that historical issues would continue to be the subject of discussions with the President of Ukraine.
On July 2, former Polish President Andrzej Duda signed a law on the national day of remembrance of Poles who became victims of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists and the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (OUN-UPA, banned in the Russian Federation).
On June 5, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine condemned Poland's decision to grant state status to the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Volyn massacre. It was noted that the Polish parliament almost unanimously (435 votes out of 436) supported the initiative to introduce a memorable date on July 11 as the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the events of 1943.
