The expert warned about the danger of improper storage of animal feed

Grigory Balagurov, director of the Law and Health Food and Packaging Foundation, warned on Thursday, July 31, that in the heat, animal feed may lose some of its nutritional properties or turn into a potentially dangerous product if stored improperly.

"In summer, under the influence of high temperatures and the scorching sun, feed spoils especially quickly, even if it can be stored for several more weeks or months," he said in an interview with Lenta.Ru .

According to the expert, at a temperature of about +25 degrees, fats in dry food begin to oxidize rapidly.

"As a result, the food has an unpleasant odor, its taste deteriorates, and its use can lead to various gastrointestinal problems for the pet, including diarrhea or vomiting," he warned.

Balagurov recommended storing the food in a cool, dry place. At the same time, make sure that there are no temperature fluctuations, and the product itself is reliably protected from direct sunlight.

"When choosing food, it is better to give preference to those that are stored in hermetically sealed polymer multilayer packaging. In contrast, it is better not to buy feed that is sold by weight in the summer," the expert added.

The expert stressed that wet food spoils especially quickly in the heat. Therefore, you should not leave a portion of wet food in a bowl for a long time, especially during the day.
