In June 2025, the average amount of car loans issued amounted to 1.31 million rubles, an increase of 3% compared to the previous month (from 1.27 million rubles). This was announced on July 31 by the National Bureau of Credit Histories (NBKI).

Compared to the same period last year, the average check for car loans issued in June decreased by 10.6% (from 1.47 million rubles). The largest average car loan size among the regions was recorded in Moscow (1.79 million rubles), the Moscow Region (1.61 million rubles) and St. Petersburg (1.51 million rubles).

The average car loan increased the most in June compared to May in the Novosibirsk Region (+8.3%), the Perm Region (+8.2%) and the Tula Region (+7.7%).

After a seven-month drop (since August last year), the average amount of car loans issued has been growing for the fourth month in a row, said Alexey Volkov, NBKI Marketing Director. The low average car loan receipt compared to last year is explained by cheaper car loans due to a change in the market structure in favor of more budget cars, as well as subsidized rates from automakers.

Earlier that day, Magomed Gamzaev, Director of Financial Product development at Compare, told Izvestia that car loans in Russia had become less affordable. On July 1, 2025, new restrictions of the Central Bank came into force, aimed at reducing risks in the financial system and combating excessive creditworthiness of the population. Now, when issuing car loans, banks and microfinance organizations are required to take into account the borrower's marginal debt burden (PD).

The day before, it was reported that in the second quarter of this year, 253.3 thousand car loans were issued in Russia. This is 43.2% less compared to the same period last year. At the same time, the indicator increased by 22.5% compared to the first quarter.
