- Patrushev accused the West of starting provocations on the Transarctic transport corridor
The West has begun staged provocations on various sections of the Transarctic Transport Corridor (TTC). This was announced on July 31 by Nikolai Patrushev, Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation, Chairman of the Maritime Board.
"Of particular concern are the increased visits of NATO ships to the Barents Sea and flights near Russian bases. An increase in the military activity of the United States and NATO in the Arctic space increases the likelihood of incidents, which can lead to an uncontrolled escalation of tension," he said during a meeting of the Council for Strategic Development of the Russian Navy.
According to him, the collective West believes that Russia allegedly lacks special rights to the highway. Based on this, the US Navy regularly conducts provocative operations to so-called "protect freedom of navigation."
He stressed the importance of ensuring security in the Pacific section of the TTC, where, among other things, problems may be created for Russian shipping contrary to the legal regime in force in the Bering Strait, regulated by bilateral agreements in the event of an aggravation of the military-political situation.
Patrushev suggested that Washington and Tokyo are quite ready to escalate in the region. He clarified that Japan is currently building up its aircraft carrier fleet, submarine forces and missile weapons, bypassing restrictions following the Second World War.
"This indicates that geopolitical tensions in the North Pacific will continue to grow, which will inevitably pose risks to the safe functioning of the Transarctic Transport Corridor and the Russian Far East as a whole. Thus, a whole range of challenges and threats to the national interests and safety of navigation is being formed throughout the TTC," he concluded.
On July 26, Patrushev said that NATO's threats against the Kaliningrad Region confirm Aliasna's desire to militarily violate Russia's territorial integrity.
Earlier, on July 10, Polish Defense Minister Vladislav Kosinyak-Kamysh called the Baltic an internal sea of NATO. According to him, it became such after Sweden and Finland joined the alliance. In addition, he stressed the need to ensure security, which allegedly stems from the malevolent actions of the Russian Federation.
