- The court sentenced the ex-head of the Ministry of Defense Timofeev to nine years in prison.
Ilya Timofeev, the former head of the recycling service of the Main Armored Vehicle Directorate (GABTU) of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, was found guilty of accepting a bribe and sentenced to nine years in prison in a high-security penal colony. This was reported on Thursday, July 31, by a correspondent of Izvestia from the Moscow Garrison Military Court.
The defendant was also fined 5.9 million rubles.
According to investigators, Timofeev received a bribe from the Scientific and Production Enterprise Samaravzryvtechnologiya for patronage and signing the necessary papers. The company was engaged in demilitarization of decommissioned armored vehicles.
The investigation believes that the company had problems signing documents under contracts with the Ministry of Defense. Representatives of Samaravzryvtechnologiya offered Timofeev money for their solution. The bribe was transferred in two parts through the nephew of the colonel's wife. The total amount was 2.9 million rubles.
On July 11, the state prosecution requested that Timofeev be found guilty and sentenced to 10 years in a high-security penal colony. It was clarified that Timofeev did not admit guilt.
