- The political scientist called the introduction of US sanctions against Iran a strategic signal.
The US sanctions against Iran represent not only economic pressure, but also a strategic signal reflecting significant changes in American policy in the Middle East. This was announced on July 31 by political analyst Dmitry Brije to Izvestia.
"Iran is likely to respond in a spirit of strategic patience, reinforced by nationalist rhetoric. The Islamic Republic has traditionally responded to such steps either symmetrically or through expanding economic and military cooperation with alternative centers of power — China, Russia, and the BRICS countries," the expert said.
The political scientist also added that the new sanctions could lead to a consolidation of power around Iran's supreme leader Ali Khamenei and radical groups.
"Economically, this will lead to a new round of pressure on Iranian exports, especially if secondary sanctions are affected," the expert added.
He stressed that despite the current restrictions, Iran has already found ways to adapt to the sanctions regime and has developed reliable methods to circumvent these measures. He stressed that such actions could have a significant impact on the global oil market, which in turn would lead to higher oil prices, especially if restrictions were imposed on Iranian tankers.
Bloomberg reported on July 30 that the United States imposed the most extensive sanctions against Iran in seven years, including against the international shipping network controlled by Tehran, as well as dozens of companies and vessels. These measures were taken a week after the European Union (EU) imposed sanctions against Shamkhani and several of his companies.
