Achondroplasia is a type of skeletal dysplasia characterized by stunting. More than 250 patients from this disease are currently being treated in Russia. Elena Petryaikina, MD, Professor, Director of the RDCB, Head of the Department of Endocrinology at the Institute of Motherhood and Childhood of the Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University, Chief Freelance Specialist in Pediatric Endocrinology of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation for the Central Federal District, chief freelance specialist in Pediatric Endocrinology of the DZM, spoke about this on July 31 at the press center of the MIC Izvestia during a press conference on the topic: "Diagnose on time."
"The disease can be suspected even in utero. In the third trimester, you can see this during an ultrasound scan," she said.
She noted that if a child with such a disease is born to healthy parents, it is more difficult to suspect the disease.
