Lavrov thanked Syria for ensuring the safety of Russian citizens and facilities

The Russian side is grateful to the Syrian authorities for ensuring the safety of citizens and facilities of the Russian Federation on the territory of the republic. This was announced on July 31 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov during a press conference following a meeting with his Syrian counterpart Asaad Hassan al-Shibani in Moscow.

"We are grateful to our Syrian colleagues for the steps they are taking to ensure the safety of Russian citizens and Russian facilities in the Syrian Arab Republic," he said.

At the same time, Lavrov noted that the sharp escalation of the situation in the province of Al-Suwayda by the Syrian authorities demonstrated the persistence of challenges faced by the leadership and society of Syria. The Foreign Minister expressed hope that in the conditions of the transition period, Syria will overcome all the difficulties in the country.

A meeting of the UN Security Council on the situation in Damascus is scheduled for the evening of July 17.

Earlier in the day, Lavrov said that Russia wants the Syrian people to overcome all challenges and fully normalize the situation in the country. According to him, the government is closely monitoring the ongoing transition processes in Syria.
