Experts spoke about the strategic importance of the liberated Chasova Yar
The liberated Chasov Yar in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) occupies an important strategic position due to its location at altitude. This was reported to Izvestia on July 31 by military expert Yuri Knutov.
"Chasov Yar is located at an altitude of, the maximum height is 245 m. Accordingly, Kramatorsk is about 190 m, Slavyansk is more than 70 m. Considering that the distance from Chasova Yar to Konstantinovka [is] about 6 km, to Kramatorsk, maybe a little more. It doesn't mean anything to long-range artillery. By the way, modern FPV drones, including fiber-optic ones, are also capable of operating at a range of 20-30 km," he noted.
The heights in the Chasova Yar area allowed the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) to keep the roads under fire control. Ukrainian formations covered Konstantinovka, Druzhkovka, and Kramatorsk here, but now the bridgehead will allow the Russian army to cut off the militants in Toretsk, as well as develop an offensive towards Slavyansk and Kramatorsk.
In addition, the settlement is protected from the south and east by hills, around which several defensive lines have been erected. So, the city was turned into a fortress. At the same time, the main part of Chasova Yar was separated from the eastern part, from where the Russian troops entered, so they began to develop an offensive to the north and south.
"You're going, no matter what. The artillery is working on you. Anyway, the goal has been set, the task is worth it, it must be completed. But when you come back, you already have a rush of emotions — you have completed the task, you are happy," the Russian fighter with the call sign Maloy shared.
The Ukrainian militants tried to launch counterattacks, but they were unsuccessful. The Russian military staged a disorganization of the enemy's defense, most of the rotations of Ukrainian militants and the supply of ammunition to them were disrupted by drone operators of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
The military of the Russian Armed Forces liberated Chasov Yar earlier in the day. Dmitry Solonnikov, Director of the Institute of Modern State Development and a political scientist, stressed the importance of this achievement. According to him, the release of Chasov Yar will be a diplomatic move that Russia will use in the future.
